The Nights Keep Rushing By So Quickly

On Friday night I went to the opening night film for the Miami International Film Festival and the after-part at Freedom Tower. The after-party was packed with film buffs, actors, producers, directors and media types. There were food stations everywhere and lots of booze. On Saturday night I went to see Miami Light Project's Here and Now at the Arsht Center. I saw two different performances of up-and-coming performers. It was an interesting night of theatre. Not quite a Broadway experience like WICKED, which I saw on Thursday night, but it was a good night of theatre. Today, after the gym, I biked around and saw all the shirtless circuit-party boys from Winter Party Festival going to the big Beach Party on Ocean and 12th. I can't remember when Winter Party Festival and the Oscars were on the same night. Tonight I'm going to the Oscar Party at Smith & Wolensky with Elaine Lancaster hosting. And the winner is....

Another Day

I got new contacts today and now my eyes are sore. I went to see Wicked tonight and couldn't see. The new issue of MiamiArtZine is up and all is good. Time for bed.

Red Bull: Art of the Can

Tonight I went to the opening of Red Bull's art exhibit in a pop-up gallery on the beach (Lummus Park across the street from Mango's). It was a beautiful pop-up space, one that I'd love to live in once the exhibition is through. The art exhibit consisted of a variety of artists who had created art out of Red Bull cans. Some were quite creative making elaborate and beautifully executed pieces of art while one artist crushed the Red Bull can a bit and called it art. South Beach diva Elaine Lancaster hosted the event and was followed into the gallery by a parade of dancing girls and boys with drums just like a carnaval caravan. The room was filled with Red Bull executives, VIPs and the artists that had created the art. The event was catered and delicious food tastings were passed, like miniature chicken quesadillas and giant shrimp. The designer Mychael Knight from Project Runway was on hand as he had designed a series of dresses (all accessorized with Red Bull cans in some way). It was a brilliant marketing campaign for Red Bull who had flown in artists from around the U.S. for the event. Out front was a fleet of Red Bull cars all with a giant can of Red Bull on top. If you're in South Beach, stop by the pop-up gallery in Lummus Park to see the exhibition. It's worth the trip and you might even get wings. Photos: Diva Elaine Lancaster and designer Mychael Knight. Red Bull exhibition included the Red Bull bicycle, foot with wings, skull with snakes and Mychael Knight's Red Bull homage to Lady Gaga.

South Beach Wine & Food Festival

Yesterday I spent the afternoon eating. This was not a meal but a whole afternoon of eating. Of course I was strolling the big tents of the South Beach Wine & Food Festival going from one restaurant or vendor stand to another. It was a bit chilly but inside the tents but inside the tents the temperature was ideal for stuffing your face. Chicken, shrimp, fish, gaspacho, gelato, ice cream, cupcakes, chocolate, scones, guacamole, creme brulee, vegtable medley, french fries, and more cupcakes. I ate like it was my last meal but did not have one glass of wine. I've made that mistake before. I had to write later and didn't want to stumble home just to fall into bed. As usual, the tents were packed with foodies pushing their way to the front of the lines (especially the cupcake line) and walking more unsteadily as the day passed. I filled my gift bag with magazines, chocolate, and other freebies (such as cupcakes). I was so full at the end of the afternoon that I didn't even have dinner. As always, it was a wonderful showcase of Miami restaurants. It also was a great showcase for alcoholic beverages but I find alcohol just slows down my ability to push my way to the front of a line. Today I had a cupcake for breakfast. Memories of the South Beach Wine & Food Festival linger and I may even have a cupcake for lunch. The Tasting Village was just one of the many events held during the week for the annual South Beach Wine & Food Festival.
