I arrived in South Beach five years ago and immediately fell in love with the place But so many people told stories about the fascinating time just past when Madonna performed here, and when Gianni Versace was alive. Those days seemed lost to me until James Cubby came out with "South Beach Star," a wonderful saga of lightly disguised fact that enabled me to relive those times as well. I read the book form of this saga and I can't imagine a better beach read, no matter whether you're actually on a beach, or enjoying the beach in your mind. This book is required reading for all South Beach Stars and wannabes.

I enjoyed James Cubby's story. With so many entertaining novels in the past few years such as by Gwen Cooper and Brian Antoni, South Beach Story adds a patch to the colorful work-in-progress tapestry. South Beach in the 80's and 90's was a magical time and it is fun to read many different viewpoints about this time. I felt like I was there with the author, and learned things I did not know before. He got the nuances correct and made me feel like I was traveling with him.

On a critical note, the book on kindle was not formatted correctly (at least on mine) and many of the pages are cut off. A minor thing but distracting none-the less. If it comes out in book form I might give it another read.

A good job.

"I'm honored to have been a contributor (Cover Designer) and be included in South Beach Star, a fictional but slightly true life tale of a special time in South Beach. James Cubby weaves a insider story that makes it a must read for all who were there and for those who want a taste of the behind scene workings of South Beach"

James Cubby has captured the feeling of the fast paced moving world of South Beach as a voyeur going from one scene to the other possessing the intensity of the lives and the going on's in those days. Reality mixed with fantasy are what this book is made of. I really enjoyed it and would like to see more books of the characters of the 80's & 90's. I think James has a great style of writing, easily readable, flowing and good image resolution. Bravo to you James Cubby for finishing and publishing your book!

A Great Summer Read, August 16, 2011

I had been anticipating the publication of "South Beach Star" forever since I had heard Cubby was in the process of writing his first novel. I must admit Cubby is not Herman Melville or Miguel de Cervantes, but nor does he claim to be. His Debut 'Tome Light' does exactly what I expected it to do; make me laugh & sometimes gasp since the people in his book are thinly veiled for anyone who has lived in South Beach for any amount of time. I bought my copy on Amazon.com and it arrived in the mail on a Saturday morning, I took it out to the pool and found myself unable to put it down until i was completely finished. A Great Light entertaining read which is a perfect summer storybook. Although the main character in the book, Kidd is a "party boy" or drug addict, well it can't be based on the author because Cubby does not do drugs . I loaned it to my neighbor who has loaned it to her husband. I want it back. Enjoy.!
